I think he was just a lazy name drop for JR. But I like to think that the wizarding world doesn’t know much about Merlin because he would have been one of the first blood traitors.

There's people mentioning the duel with Dumbledore and Voldemort, but nobodys brought up the spell Dumbledore uses that forces Voldemort to conjure a shield. Harry can feel the power coming off of it, and it bangs out the shield with a gong.

Nice theory, but, you are overlooking the simple economic facts of large families extending back for generations. The Weasley clan have always had 6 or more children. When the parents die, any legacy has to be divided. Each of the next generation has 6 or more children, leaving little discretionary income to be put away as savings. When those parents die, the 1/6th legacy left to them is then divided between their 6 children. With each generation “the pot” gets smaller. In real life history, particularly in the UK, this can be seen in ancient family estates shrinking over the centuries as the inheritance was divided amongst sons, and parcels of land given as dowries for daughters. Many vast estates ended up being a manor house sitting on a 1200sqm block, the gate house a seperate property sitting on an 800sqm block, and the dower house etc etc. It is a curse, the curse of large families over many generations. As one of 8 children, descended from many generations of large families, I can attest to the effectiveness of this common curse 😂😂

Mcgonagall was very motherly to Harry, much like Molly Weasley This man literally threatened her, not just spat on her. Which is extremely disrespectful. "Pay the price" could mean her life and so decisive action and protective instincts kicked in. He's already lost Dumbledore at this point and so I am sure that makes this even more personal to Harry. Harry loved Mcgonagall, much like he loved Dumbledore. Remember he even tried to have her sign his permission slip for Hogsmead.

Because magic is involved I think the nature of Tom Riddle is broken, missing something. From the moment of his conception "love" or power over it one way or another was being manipulated heavily. It wasn't love that lead to his conception it was obsession and narcissism in the worst way. His mother used powerful love magic on a guy. For Voldermort what's missing was always missing before his existence. Overwhelmed by all this other vanity. In a way he was the consequence. Contrast that with what underlying power it took to finally stop him. The whole story underneath it all is one about the power of a mother's unconditional love versus the conditional "love" of another. If love's conditional then it's not real. If magic is weaved into every part of a magical beings existence then surely that means their pre-existence going into their conception. A bit heavy for a kids story but it's where the questions lead. Tom's mother on some level must have been reveling in her power and abilities over his father. How she got what she wanted, took it. Ultimately she lost it because she wanted "more," she wanted it all to be real. She didn't die of a broken heart it was narcissistic collapse, the facade fell apart. So much is said about death in these stories but what about birth, conception even? For magical beings there's no way the nature of their conception isn't a huge factor in their magical potential. If not then what determines if a person is born muggle or magical or if magical parents have a muggle kid? Like messing with Time is a major no no, Emotions should be treated the same way, as a powerful abstract force. Because the bloodline involved is old and powerful itself that shouldn't take away from how these things played out. A love potion seems simple but from that look at the damage, destruction, and deaths came as a result. HP is a story about love and the absence of it.

Your timeline seems wrong, as Riddle already had the ring when he was discussing horcruxes with Slughorn. It's possible he hadn't turned it into a horcrux at this time, but that would mean the creation of one isn't directly tied to the killing of Gaunt. It's more likely that he had already made his first horcrux before discussing making more with Slughorn. It also seems more likely that his facination with the Hogwarts founders started during his school years, rather than after his first attempt to get a teaching possition there. Indeed a core reason for wanting to come back was likely this facination. Also you say the Giants resettled in Denmark, but in the books the seem to live in a "remote mountainous region in Northern Europe". Something that Denmark can hardly be described as, as it is very flat ;)

I think locks are probably more a courtesy thing in the wizarding world. Like you push on the door and it's locked so you realize that's not where you're supposed to go.

This fits... except for one thing. It was normal for for wealthy young men of the time period to have affairs with lowborn women. It was called "sowing wild oats". But it *wasn't* normal for them to marry the socially-inferior young women they seduced. So... I can see a scenario in which Riddle, Sr took advantage of a gullible young woman, but then Merope used some form of magic to "bring him up to scratch" as they said then. Maybe amortencia, maybe the Imperius curse... or maybe she simply lied and claimed the Gaunts had some secret fortune that her father was too eccentric to make use of. Great wealth is a powerful social equalizer. That would account for Tom's insistence that she "deceived" him. It really annoys me that J. K. Rowling insists through Dumbledore that Merope chose to die. She was a victim of lifelong emotional abuse, severely depressed and poorly nourished during her pregnancy, and underwent a difficult childbirth that left her the brink of death. How can you say that she had the strength and magical knowledge to save her own life under those circumstances, and therefore must have chosen to die? It's disgusting of Rowling.

We know that the minister for magic works closely with the muggle ministry, the world governments know and hel keep the statue of secrecy. One can assume that once they are told they just cover it up.

I always thought of house elves as being the result of wizarding experimentation. A desire to develop a wizarding army to fight muggles because there weren’t enough wizards and witches to do the job. So the ministry of magic sought to create a magical creature that had certain powers and abilities, but could also follow orders. So they experimented with leprechauns and gnomes and pixies and fairies.

One thing about Harry and the Theastrals: If Harry didn't really recognized that his mother died being a toddler, why was this broght to him as his most horrible memory by the Dementors? I agree that a toddler at that age cannot understand what's going on here, but why can this be his worst memory pulled up by the Dementors then? And why do you argue at literally the next plothole that you find Harry's reaction logical? If this really is a horror of the past, he should have been able to see the Thestrals, wouldn't he? The plot hole that bugs me the most is this: How can the magical world not know anything about the history of Europe between 1914 and 1945?
